Yesterday, my children watched a short video about NFL rivalries. One of the rivalries just happened to be Cowboys vs San Francisco 49'ers. My children immediately started booing the Cowboys even though they've never watched a football game (unless going to a Little League Football game counts). Although we aren't big sports enthusiasts, my husband and I do not care for the Cowboys and we voice that opinion enough (especially since they're in our backyard to speak of)!
It really got me thinking about us parents and how our opinions rub off on our children. They automatically didn't like a team because we don't like it.
So I ask the question - Why? Why do you have that political view, or why do you like a certain team. And if someone says they don't like something, do you check it out first or do you take their word for it and form the same opinion.
One problem with our country is that many follow blindly just because their parents, teachers, friends, or someone they look up to and admire are going a certain direction. There are many generations of Democrats / Republicans just because their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were Democrat / Republican. Whatever happened to thinking for yourself?
Just rambling I know, but it's what I've been thinking about.

Celebrating 10 Years
No - it's not my wedding anniversary I'm talking about - it's my anniversary week as a SAHM. 10 years ago this week, I was blessed beyond measure with the ability to stay home with my children.
I'll never forget the emotions of trying to work and not really wanting to because I wanted to be home with Sarah and my new baby boy. We had been praying that God would make a way for me to be able to stay home and suddenly, it was happening.
As I look back on the last 10 years, I don't regret any of the sacrifices we've had to make. Do I wish we had more $ to take care of some of the necessary stuff? Yes, but I feel that my staying home is way more important than having more $. By my staying home, my children will never have to know what it feels like to be a latchkey kid. They'll always have someone to come home to after school. I'll never have to wonder what my soon to be teenagers are doing while I'm at work.
I teasingly told my husband the other night that since it was my 10 year anniversary, I should get a raise. He lovingly said he couldn't pay me what I was worth! I love my DH! But seriously - I want to celebrate this milestone. I love my children more than anything and want to be there for them and I feel this is the best way I can be there for them. Would it be easier to work an outside job and let someone else take care of them during the day? Some days I have felt that way, but in the long run - no. I cannot let someone else do what God placed in my hands to do.

Swine Flu Review
Was I right, or was I right - now there is no epedimic. Under 2000 cases nationwide so, let's just get back to normal living, okay? Wrong, do you know how much $ has been spent for a few cases of the flu? Most likely millions. And how many people and businesses have been affected by this.
And all you kids that were getting out of school for this week, just turn around and go back to school. Many families have been scrambling this week to find childcare arrangements due to this. Many school closings and any extra curricular activities were cancelled. So, now everyone is left scrambling when they suddenly change their minds.
I'm glad our ISD decided to not close the schools. And, maybe I can find disinfectant wipes (which I use all the time) and waterless cleaner now. I needed to buy some last week, and there was none to be found.
Thank you media and government for blowing this out of proportion and scaring a good majority of the population!

My Thoughts concerning the Swine Flu
It's happening again - the media is in overdrive over something. This time it's the swine flu scare.
1. How many people get the regular flu every year?
Answer: about 5% to 20% of US residents get the flu yearly.
2. How many people die from the regular flu every year?
Answer: about 36,000 die yearly from the flu.
3. How many schools do we close down for the regular flu every year?
Answer: None that I know of.
I'm not saying that I don't care about this swine flu - I am moderately concerned and am taking precautions to make sure we don't get it. But if this virus is so bad - I have a suggestion: Close the borders! After all, this flu is being traced back to Mexico.
But everyone is tiptoeing around this because they don't want to offend LULAC - But how many people over in the US are illegal's and have spread this flu?
There are many people that are over here illegally. I see them every day at school, in my neighborhood, on the street corner. Do I mind people coming to the United States? No - not at all, but they need to do it the legal way. But we turn our heads as they come pouring over the border. And now, according to the media, there is a pandemic on our hands that might have been prevented if we would not make it so easy for people to get across the border.
Just some thoughts - maybe I'm wrong, but then again, maybe I'm right!

Stink Bombs, Sri Lanka, Outerspace...
Okay, you're probably wondering - what in the world do stink bombs, Sri Lanka, and Outer Space have in common? One very interesting field trip.
I took the day off to spend the day with Sarah going on a field trip to UTA. But,it started out very interesting this morning. When I got to Sarah's homeroom class, I noticed one of the trouble makers showing someone a cigarette lighter. Turns out the kid not only had a lighter, but smoke bombs and stink bombs. Thank God, he didn't set them off or start a fire. And he is most likely going to Turning Point, an alternative school for kids like this.
After that was taken care of I followed the sixth grade class to the waiting yellow buses. Now folks, believe it or not, I have never been on a school bus before! So that was exciting in itself. (I know - I'm easily entertained)
So, off to UTA we go. When we got there, we were escorted to a ballroom that had been turned into an exhibit hall. There were many different cultural exhibits there along with a band of college students that played music from India. It was very interesting and Sarah & I even got to dress in a Bangledash outfit as you can see in the photos.
Next we visitied the planetarium. During the program however, I wanted to start quoting Genesis 1 because the whole movie was based upon the big bang theory (I didn't capitalize on purpose because it doesn't deserve to be capitalized). To think that a universe could just create itself is so ridiculous. There is no way that something could just come together and be perfectly created without a Creator. Louie Gigleo - "How Great is our God" brings the greatness of God down to our size. God created a universe so big, my mind cannot even comprehend it and He's bigger than that! I would hate to think that I just "happened". No, God created us in His image.
So, there's my field trip story. And here's some pictures to show for it!
